Dr. Taub’s Letter, Spring/Summer 2016 Newsletter
Dear patients, colleagues and friends,
Thank goodness our winter was kind to us! Now hopefully our spring and summer will cooperate to enhance our quality of life! But I always say, if Chicago weather was a lot better then our beautiful city would be overcrowded!
We are very excited to have Dr. Anne Marie Mahoney join us as an associate physician on August 2nd!
We had mentioned in the last newsletter that we would be able to provide you with some prescription based creams at an affordable cost that are the workhorses of our dermatology practice; this is available now! All of the providers and staff have been frustrated with the fact that when we diagnose your problem and come up with the best treatment plan you are met at the pharmacy with Sir or Madam, that tube of cream will cost you $150 [or worse $1500] and you are left standing there going: Huh??? What is in there, gold nuggets?
There are complex reasons why the cost of medications, both brand and generic have increased exponentially. I sat in on a presentation on this topic by members of the FDA at the recent American Academy of Dermatology meeting in Washington D.C. that did not necessarily clarify the situation! Our practical response to this situation has been to put ourselves in a position to offer you ADV RX. ADV RX is a group of topical prescription products consisting of high quality generic ingredients that we can prescribe and provide to you at affordable costs. Basic treatments for acne, rosacea, dermatitis, fungal infections, dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis), hair loss, psoriasis and other rashes are now available. There is no obligation for you to use these prescriptions instead of your pharmacy, but it is now an option when the medication is too expensive for your budget. We don’t have every topical therapy that exists, but we have a decent range that can be expanded if you all find this to be valuable.
The 6th Annual Skin for Life will be on May 4th, early this year, since last year the date seemed to interfere with so many graduations (and I have my own this year since my son is graduating from college!). If you have never been, this is a memorable and entertaining charity event supporting skin cancer detection and public education about its prevention. There is a professional fashion show, vendor booths, silent auction with great prizes and good odds to win, appetizers and beverages. It will be emceed by the talented ladies Susanna Homan of Chicago Magazine and Melissa McGurren of 101.9FM The Mix. For those of you who have been there, you know…! For those of you who haven’t, come and have a good time for a good cause at a unique event.
We had our second Advanced Dermatology Academy in March on Lower Face Solutions. We had a good time educating patients and demonstrating the various treatments available for tightening of the jawline, improving jowls, getting rid of neck wrinkles, chin fat and neck bands. We have been working very hard on making this complicated area more understandable and also finding solutions that fit certain facial types. For instance some treatments are better if your skin is thick or thin, if there is fat or not. Putting the right combination together for each person giving you the best outcomes have been our goals since day 1 at Advanced Dermatology.
