Genius™ Radiofrequency Treatment

Genius™ treatments use microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy to reduce the appearance of scars and wrinkles, improve skin texture, and correct minor sagging, with minimal pain and downtime. Patients are most commonly treated with Genius™ on the face, neck, and chest, but Genius can treat almost any area of your body. It can even help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

The Genius™ technology combines fractional RF energy with gentle micro-needling to maximize skin tightening results. The tip has 49 sterile insulated needles that deliver radiofrequency energy at the needle tips. These needles safely penetrate the skin to a specific depth, allowing the RF energy to more effectively bypass the skin surface and target the underlying dermis. As we age, collagen and elastin production declines. Genius™ is one of the only treatments that generate not only collagen but elastin as well, resulting in thicker, tighter and smoother skin. The system continuously monitors the quality of the skin during the treatment, allowing your provider to accurately customize each treatment. Genius™ is a safe, non-invasive treatment that works on all skin types.

Genius™ can treat the skin in many areas including the face, neck, décolletage, arms, knees, or surgery scars on other areas of the body.

You can expect to see some changes as soon as one to two days after the procedure. However, your body will continue to rebuild the collagen and elastin for several weeks after that, continuing to improve over the next six months. Many patients see results after just 1 Genius™ treatment, but it typically takes 3 treatments to get optimal results, as opposed to the 6 treatments needed with many other treatments.

There may be some discomfort associated with Genius™ depending on your individual tolerance for pain. During your initial consultation, prior to treatment, your Advanced Dermatology provider will determine the most appropriate methods to alleviate any discomfort.

During the Genius™ treatment you will feel heat and some pressure on the area being treated. Treatment can take as little as 15 minutes or up to an hour (allow an additional hour for numbing). Your provider will discuss your goals which will determine treatment time and recommended number of treatments.

After being treated with Genius™ patients may experience initial redness and swelling which substantially subsides after 24-36 hours. Commonly, it can take up to a week for this to completely subside. Most patients are able to resume their normal activities within 48 hours.

Side effects, like mild redness and swelling, can last up to three days. Pinpoint bleeding, bruising, and stamping marks from the needles in the treatment area may also be present.

Patients with a pacemaker, defibrillator or that have an allergy to gold are not candidates for the Genius™ treatment. Additionally, patients who are pregnant should not have this treatment.

Dependent upon your concerns, alternatives to Genius™ include Thermage®, Microneedling, Profound, Ultherapy®, Fraxel®, eMatrix™ and CO2 fractional laser resurfacing (CO2RE).

Genius™ treatments can be combined with many other treatments such as fillers, neuromodulators, and photorejuvenation (but not on the same day).
