Cellulite is caused by a few different things in the skin.
It is usually only found in women because a woman’s fat and skin structure is fundamentally different than a man’s. The chief cause is fibrous bands or connections from the surface to the muscle that is like the buttons in a mattress. They can cause the fat to be squeezed to push up too far into the surface, causing the lumps, which the pulling of the bands causing the valleys.
Treatments that help to smooth everything out, including shrinking fat cells and strengthening connective tissue, include Apollo and Thermage. Other treatments actually go underneath the skin with the laser to break up the bands and also melt some of the excess fat (Cellulaze). Topical treatments aim to reduce the activity of the fat to shrink the fluid compartment and even our surface. There are 3 grades of cellulite.
